We are proud to announce our guest speaker for the next Meet 19 event Wednesday 29th March: social entrepreneur Jules Siedenburg
Jules has many years of experience in the field of international development as both a practitioner and researcher, and has focused on agriculture, climate change and Africa. He has worked for diverse donors and NGOs (e.g., the UK Department for International Development, CARE), and is also a research fellow at the University of East Anglia.
For all the merit of conventional development interventions, they don’t always deliver the intended results. Jules has therefore been searching for neglected opportunities with promise for poor communities in Africa. Edible algae is one particularly exciting opportunity, and could be called an x-factor technology in light of its huge potential.
His start-up idea involves leveraging this technology as a way to help poor communities in the global South. His proposed business model would address the major obstacles to both its production and consumption within the target communities, and would set the stage for wider scale-up in the global South.
